AAA Girls' 300m Hurdles Preview
It's been a terrific senior season for Jane Livingston of Conestoga Valley. She has emerged as one of the state's all-time best in the high hurdles and the intermediate hurdles. She comes in to the state meet, running the best of her career. She ran a PA No. 1 42.40 in 300 hurdles to win the L-L League and then went 42.58 to win the District 3 title. She's the top seed and the one to beat.
It looked like Livingston might run away with the state title for much of the season, but the District 7 (WPIAL) Championships proved that this, like many other races, will be a close one at Shippensburg. Pine-Richland's Danielle Bryant top a two and a half second PR with a 42.92 to win the WPIAL title. She took the victory in a close race with Mount Lebanon's Molly Mangan. Mangan, a senior, was second a year ago and ran a PR of 42.86.
Expect an interesting race between Livingston, Bryant, and Mangan with the AAA state title on the line. It may take a sub-42 time!
This is a deep field overall. District 1 champ Anais Williams of North Penn will be in the mix. She edged out Cheltenham's Brianna Smith for that win. Both could be looking at nice improvements come the state meet. Penn Wood's Elicia Moore was fourth in District 1, but may have won it if not for a last hurdle misstep. She can't be counted out. Chester's Jiya Clayton, third in D1, will also be a factor.
Cumberland Valley's Taylor Jede has had a strong season in the event. She's consistently been in the 44s and could certainly drop some time in a competitive states field.
