AAA Girls' 100m Hurdles Preview
One of the state meet's most highly anticipated head-to-head matchups will come in the AAA girls 100 meter hurdles, where the state's top two high hurdlers Christina Warren of Perkiomen Valley and Jane Livingston of Conestoga Valley will meet again.
So here's a look: Warren has the PA No. 1 spot at 13.54, while Livingston's best is at 13.59 (PA No. 2). Livingston won the indoor state title in the 60 meter hurdles over Warren. In their lone outdoor matchup this spring, Livingston took a close win over Warren at the Henderson. Warren was the state champ last year, while Livingston (coming off injury) was fifth in the final. It's going to be a can't-miss matchup and will likely take a PR and supremely fast time to capture the title.
We also can't forget about Oakland Catholic's Jayla Ellis, the versatile senior, who popped a big PR and sub-14 with a 13.93. She was second to Warren last year in the state final and is an experienced and talented hurdler who will be in the mix. Fellow District 7 hurdlers Flynn Begor of Mount Lebanon and Danielle Bryant of Pine-Richland will be in the mix. Begot (14.36) was second to Ellis at WPIALs, while Bryant (14.37) was third.
District 1 talents Brianna Smith of Cheltenham, Elke Knecht of Council Rock South, and Kayli Williams of Pennsbury will be solid medal threats in this field. Knecht was seventh last season in the final. District 3 runner-up Ava Bechtel of Cedar Cliff will also be a factor in this field.
These girls watched years ago as Chanel Brissett (now an NCAA champion) re-defined hurdling in Pennsylvania. Now they are approaching Brissett-like times. Don't miss this final.
