AA Boys' 3,200m Preview
The first boys track final of the day on Saturday morning will be a close one. The AA boys 3200 meters features some very strong distance runners and could come down to the wire.
The top-ranked boy in the field is Jenkintown's Jack Miller, who was sixth last year at states. The 1A XC champion from the fall will shoot to add an outdoor track gold to his collection. He ran 9:22.58 this season and ran away with the District 1 title. Miller will be challenged by a host of others, including the top seed, Krystof Lapotsky of Mount Carmel Area. The junior was just .19 off Miller's AA-leading time at the Henderson Invitational. He'll be going for redemption at Ship.
The top returner from last year's state meet is Andrew Healey of Holy Cross. The junior was third a year ago. This year, he ran a season best of 9:38.59 for second in District 2. Liam Mead of Montrose won that race in 9:35.57. Look for both to be in the mix near the front on Saturday.
Another returning medalist from last year is Penns Valley's Colton Sands. The sophomore ran 9:26 this season and took the District 6 win last week. Taking second in that D6 race was Westmont Hilltop's Nick Fetzer, who ran 9:35.25 for a huge PR. He's put himself in the conversation for the top spot in this field.
Logan Horst of Lancaster Mennonite was seventh at the state meet last year. He'll be back after running to the District 3 title last week. Wyalusing Valley's Kevin Heeman, Winchester Thurston's Scott Routledge, and Trinity Christian's Zachary Gould will also be among the medal stand contenders in the AA 3200.
