8. Boys 60m & 60m Hurdles - CD East boys clean up in the infield sprints
There were back-to-back Central Dauphin East boys wins on Saturday at Kevin Dare. In the 60 meter hurdles, David Niang claimed the win and then in the next boys race, Shawn Brown took home gold in the 60 meter dash.
Brown, the reigning outdoor 100m state champ in AAA, showed off his speed in the short sprint, running to the win in 6.92, a PA No. 3 time on the season. He bested a talented field. West Chester Rustin's Drew Gallen also dipped under 7 seconds, taking second in 6.99. Brown's CDE teammate Bryce Baker was third in 7.04 and Girard's Donovan Sanders was fourth in 7.05.
Brown and the others are certainly among the state's top names to watch in the 60 as the season continues to progress.
Niang, meanwhile, is proving to be one of the state's top breakthroughs this winter. The senior didn't have any hurdle performances in the MileSplit database coming into the indoor season, but on Saturday, he showed that he's ready to be in the conversation as one of the state's top hurdlers.
After getting out of the blocks extremely well, Niang rolled from there, clocking a PR of 8.27 for the convincing win. Similar to his brother Emmanuel "Manny" Niang, who didn't have much hurdle experience either prior to his season year, David is making some noise. Older brother Manny closed out his career with a state title in the 110m hurdles outdoors.
Could David Niang be on that same trajectory? Maybe. But what we know is that Saturday was quite the statement performance for him.
