Girls Recap - PIAA Foundation Invitational
A Girls - Wilmington's Grace Mason, one of the top Class A girls in the state this season, showed her fitness at Foundation, taking the top A spot with a time of 20:37. Penns Valley's Kelsey Hull was second overall for a second straight big meet and Mercer's Willow Myers ran well to take third.
The Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy girls kept it rolling on Saturday, winning its second major meet in as many weeks. After taking the A race at RWB last week, the Wolves turned in a winning performance at Hershey, scoring 61 points for the win. Penns Valley Area was second with 81 and the Mason-led Wilmington girls were just behind PVA in third with 88.
AA Girls - Belle Vernon's Grace Henderson was strong on Saturday, taking the top AA top in the meet. Henderson ran away with her individual race, running a time of 19:56 for the victory in AA.
Olivia Haas of Blue Mountain said she didn't feel like she was at her best on Saturday. She came home second in 20:02. That performance comes a week after she went sub-18 at a dual meet. The Blue Mountain girls came out on top in the team standings in AA, scoring 73 points, 10 ahead of second-place Villa Maria Academy, which was led by Sarah Clark's third overall place finish.
AAA Girls - Mia Cochran continued her hot start to her junior season. Cochran clocked the day's fastest girls time -- an 18:16 to take the AAA victory, making it two wins in a row for the Moon Area harrier. This win follows up her victory at RWB last week.
Northeastern's Margaret Carroll went 18:35 for second -- a very strong performance, just off her state meet time from last year. Wilson's Caryn Rippey was a solid third in 18:56, followed by North Allegheny's Keeley Misutka, who was fourth in 19:27. Greencastle-Antrim freshman Claire Paci was the most impressive frosh of the meet, finishing fifth overall in AAA with a 19:32.
In the team race, it was a bit of a reversal from a week prior. The North Allegheny girls took the win with 94 points, ahead of second place Seneca Valley, which scored 113 points. A week ago at RWB, it was Seneca Valley that took down NA. This week, though, NA received a boost from freshman Eva Kynaston, who was 14th overall as the Tigers' No. 2 runner. The NA-SV matchup continues to be the state's most interesting to watch for.
Mechanicsburg Area was strong on Saturday, taking third with 120 points. State College was fourth with 133, Pine-Richland took home fifth with 160, closely followed by sixth-place Northeastern (166).
