It's been an incredible start to the 2021 XC season for Logan St. John Kletter of Mount Lebanon. But she was still missing her elusive first win.
It came on Saturday in the Girls Gold (Class AAA) Race at the PIAA Foundation Invitational. It was just St. John Kletter's first time on the challenging Hershey Parkview Course, but she made the most of it, outlasting a strong field to take the win. St. John Kletter went 18:46 for the win, making her move to the front in the final loop.
The Lebo sophomore hung in the pack for the first half of the race. Eventually, it separated into a lead pack consisting of St. John Kletter, the North Allegheny duo of Wren Kucler and Eva Kynaston, and Owen J. Roberts' Claire Zubey. But St. John Kletter made her move and came away with an impressive victory on the same course where she'll hopefully return to race her first XC state meet in November.
Kucler took second in 18:54 and Zubey was third in 19:08 with Kynaston taking fourth in 19:12. The Kucler and Kynaston-led North Allegheny girls captured the team title.
