Meet Preview: District 6 Championships

District 6 Class A Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Individuals To Watch: Tim Barrett (Marion Center); Josh Canavan (Portage Area); Dillon Green (Marion Center); Colton Henning (United); Tucker Klotz (Ligonier Valley); Chad Muckey (Philipsburg-Oscola)

Contending Teams: Bishop McCortCambria Heights; Marion Center Area; Penns Valley Area; United

The Skinny: Four boys have run sub-17:30 this season, and those will likely be the ones battling it out for the District 6 Class A title. Barrett won the Heritage Conference title, and enters Saturday with some good momentum. He beat out his teammate Green and Canavan, who will look to challenge him up front. Klotz was second at the Westmoreland County meet, running 17:05, and he will be right in the mix for the win, along with Muckey, who ran an impressive early season 17:09 at Big Spring. It looks like a wide open race here.

There are two spots to the state meet up for grabs. Marion Center won the Heritage Conference title, and looks to have the best depth in the district to win the title. After that, Cambria Heights, United, Penns Valley, and Bishop McCort will look to claim the second of the two state spots.

District 6 Class AA Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 1
  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 5

Individuals To Watch: Chase Ebeling (Bellefonte); Evan George (Central Cambria); Aiden Lechleitner (Central Cambria); Devon Morgan (Central Cambria); Cody Roberts (Central Cambria); Logan Strawser (Juniata)

Contending Teams: Bellefonte Area; Central Cambria; Juniata; Penn Cambria; Westmont Hilltop

The Skinny: Central Cambria is in a good spot to make it seven district championships in a row. The Red Devils have retooled nicely this season, and have plenty of firepower that should power the squad to Hershey. There's just one state spot on the line, and it will be hard for any team here to get close to Central Cambria.

The individual race will be a good race between Strawser and Lechleitner. Strawser ran 16:17 at Big Valley this season and has raced in a number of big meets this year. Lechleitner was top five at Red, White & Blue and Carlisle, and was second at the LHAC Champs and will be a tough one to take down for the district title.

District 6 Class AAA Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 1
  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 5

Individuals To Watch: Trent Dinant (State College); Charles Endres (State College); Ethan Holcomb (Williamsport); Aidan Kelley (Altoona); Ben Love (Hollidaysburg); Chris Love (Hollidaysburg); Nick Sloff (State College)

Contending Teams: Altoona Area; Mifflin County; State College Area; Williamsport Area

The Skinny: State College will be going for ten District 6 titles in a row and the Little Lions are a good bet to claim the lone state qualifying spot. SC is fresh off a Mid-Penn Conference title a few weeks ago and has once again cultivated a team of great depth. Altoona, Mifflin County and Williamsport will look to challenge, but SC is the big favorite.

The individual race could be a close one with State College's top boys going up against the Hollidaysburg duo and possibly a few others. Dinant was the top SC boy at Mid-Penns, taking fourth. He's running well at the right time and he'll look to turn that into a district title. Endres, Sloff, and the Loves will shoot to make it close up front.
