Girls Triple Jump Preview
The best competitions are the ones where the top athletes are jumping their best at that time. And that's exactly what we're getting in the girls triple jump ahead of the state meet. Many of the top-ranked entries have hit their season best within the last couple weeks, which will make this a great event.
At the top of the rankings entering Sunday is Ava Alexander of West Chester Rustin. The junior is coming off a spring that saw her win the AAA state title outdoors. She jumped an overall PR of 39-5 this past week at Ocean Breeze, and Alexander will look to convert that into a state title.
But it's crowded atop the state rankings, and it will take a big day to take home the win.
Shipley School's Sabrina Imes will be one of the top challengers. The senior has plenty of big meet experience and was second at the last indoor state meet in 2020, where she jumped her PR of 39-1. Imes has a season best of 38-11, which she put down to win the DVGTCA Meet of Champs, and she will be a tough one to beat.
North Penn's Taylor Forbes was second to Imes at the DVGTCA Meet of Champs with a jump of 38-5.5 -- a big PR for the junior. She will be a factor in this field as well and not one to count out. West Catholic's Taleea Buxton, most known for her hurdling, has emerged as a terrific triple jumper as well. Buxton jumped a best of 37-8.5 to win the PCL title and then took third at the DVGTCA MOCs behind Imes and Forbes. She's jumping well at the right time.
New Castle's Maria Owens took home the TSTCA title this past week. She has a season best of 37-7, and the versatile senior belongs right in the conversation with the other favorites. State College's Shannon Mullin also comes in with a season best of 37-7, and should be a contender here, as well.
Bishop McDevitt's Maddy Brooks, North Penn's Madison Gee, Upper Moreland's Gabrielle Teel, and Altoona Area's Brooke Long are among the others to keep an eye on in the stacked field.
