PREVIEW: 2022 District 12 Championships

District 12 Class A Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Individuals To Watch: Calder Burke (Masterman); Jakob Riz (Masterman)

Contending Teams: Masterman, Mastery Charter School - Hardy Williams, Tacony Academy Charter, GAMP

The Rundown:

Masterman should roll to a convincing victory. They have seven boys ranked inside the Top 12 of the District. They most recently finished second at the Philadelphia Public League Championship meet, behind Central. Behind them, Mastery Charter School - Hardy Williams, Tacony Academy Charter and GAMP will compete for the final transfer spot.

Calder Burke is the runaway favorite to win the individual championship. He is the only boy to have run sub-18:30 this year, with his stout 17:24. He was second at the Philadelphia Public League Championship.

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

The Rundown:

Archbishop Wood and Lansdale Catholic should battle it out for the District 12 title on Thursday. On paper, these two teams are incredibly close, with nearly identical 1-5 averages (based on personal best 5Ks). At the Philadelphia Catholic League Championships, Lansdale Catholic finished fourth, while Archbishop Wood finished in sixth. However, they were only separated by 12 points and a condensed field may close that gap decisively.

Heckler, Glavin and Micheels shouldbe in a close race for the District 12 Championship. Glavin got the better of them at the Philadelphia Catholic League Championships and we expect a similar result this week. He ran 16:46 to Heckler's 17:05.

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Individuals To Watch: Drew Brill (LaSalle), Cole Casadei (LaSalle), Ryan McGinley (LaSalle)

Contending Teams: LaSalle College High School, Saint Joseph's Prep, Father Judge

The Rundown:

It will be all LaSalle out front. They might run the perfect 1-5 sweep, if they race hard. We wouldn't be surprised if they use Thursday as a workout in preparation for States next week. Father Judge and St. Josephs Prep will battle for the second transfer spot.

The three LaSalle boys mentioned in our individuals-to-watch will likely cruise to the finish line together. We don't expect them to race each-other hard. Any one of them can cross the line in first.
