200m Dash Previews

The Girls

Writer's Prediction: Avery Lewis runs 24.51 with other events in mind.

Avery Lewis has solidified herself as the 200m dash favorite as well. Lewis was last year's champion in 23.79 and has run 24.14 this season.

As noted in the 60m portion of the preview, we expect Lewis to approach the 200m dash with her other events in mind. However, this is Lewis's senior Indoor State Championship, so don't be surprised if she goes after Thelma Davies' 23.51 meet record.

Milan Ramey (Harriton) must be a potential top-three finisher on your radar. Ramey ran 24.77, a massive PR, last weekend at the Garden State Invitational, making herself the No. 2 seed on Sunday. This season, she is peaking at the right time and will likely improve upon her 9th-place finish from last year.

Mimi Duffy (Central Bucks West) has been steadily improving all season. She ran 24.87 this year, earning herself a spot in the conversation as one of the state's top 200m dash runners.

Also, keep an eye on Faith Fuqua (Downingtown East), Alexandra Lea (Southern Lehigh), Macaela Walker (Oxford Area), and Kaddel Howard (Cedar Crest).

The Boys

Writer's Prediction: Jayden Horton-Mims doubles back for 200m dash title in 21.35.

Jayden Horton-Mims (Imhotep Institute Charter) has made a name for himself as the state's long sprinter to beat. Will he be able to double back and compete in a stacked 200m dash field after the 400m?

Horton-Mims brought fire to the track at his last race. The junior ran an incredible 21.20, a massive PR, to win the Ocean Breeze Invitational.

We may not see it this year, but Horton-Mims is undoubtedly in contention to snag Austin Kratz's (Dock Mennonite) 2018 meet record of 21.09.

Similar to the 60m, the 200m dash has a deep field of other competitors who could walk away with the win.

Shaun McCoullum (George Washington) and Julian Ward (Roman Catholic) will double back from the 60m. McCoullum ran 21.47, finishing second to Horton-Mims at the Ocean Breeze Invitational. Ward's season best is a 21.62 that he ran at the Kristian March Memorial Invitational, finishing second to McCoullum.

We must also look at Ade Lloyd (Harriton) and Jesse Myers (State College) as potential top finishers. Lloyd has a season-best of 21.66 from the same Ocean Breeze meet as Horton-Mims and McCoullum. Meanwhile, Myers was last year's PTFCA eighth-place finisher. He has run 21.78 this season.

Keep an eye on Abaas Hunter (Episcopal Academy), Robert Turner (Coatesville), and Jaelyn Galloway (Haverford Township).
