01/09 - 01/10 | The Hispanic Games One of the main reasons the PennTrack family thought the rankings would be totally reshuffled is the fact that many PA stars were going to compete at the highly competitive Hispanic Games. After 14 hours of competition, our rankings were indeed made over. Cheltenham and Penn Wood boys 4x400 meter relay teams competed in what appeared to be two different races at one time. Both teams wanted to win the race, but in the event that they didn't, they wanted to be sure they didn't lose to their state rival. After a neck and neck first two legs, the champions Cheltenham regained the lead in the 3rd leg, and then John Lewis finished the job and took his team to the top spot in the country with their winning time of 3:20.08! Penn Wood finished 2nd in a US#4 3:22.71, a perfect 1-2 finish for PA! Lewis also took the state lead in the 400 meter dash with a 4th place finish in the invitational race in a US#6 48.81, just ahead of PA#2 Charles Snorweah of Pennsbury (49.28). Penn Wood would finish the day with one state lead, running 1:31.94 to top the state in the 4x200 meter relay. Two more winners came from the PA contingent that travelled to New York. Mason Weh of Upper Darby rebounded very nicely from his tough day at the Burdette meet two weeks ago by winning the 55 meter hurdles in a US#4 7.41. Ryan Wilkes of Valley View set a lifetime best in winning the pole vault with a T-US#4 clearance of 16 feet to own the state lead by 18 inches. Other highlights include a new PA leader in the triple jump, as Sam Pope of Episcopal Academy jumped 45-0.50 to finish 2nd and become the first 45+ foot triple jumper in the state this season. Sam Ritz of Germantown Academy improved on his state lead in the mile with a 5th place finish in the invitational race in 4:14.59. He also ran 1:57.70 to finish 3rd in the 800 meter run. Ade Roundtree of Imhotep finished 3rd in the 200 meter dash in a PA#2 22.17. Christian Brissett of Cheltenham finished 3rd in the 55 meter dash in 6.43. For the girls, Taylor Chapman of Pennridge had a monster day in the sprints. The senior finished 2nd in the 55 meter dash with a US#3 7.04. She later followed that up with her 2nd 200 meter win at the Armory with a US#2 time of 24.49 to beat out 3rd place Brooklynn Broadwater of Springside Chestnut Hill (US#8 24.98). Broadwater did run 55.99 to finish 3rd in the invitational 400 and earn US#3 honors. Ciara Leonard was also a winner on the day, winning the 55 meter hurdles in a US#2 7.89, just .01 seconds off the national lead! Teammate Chanel Brissett finished 3rd in 8.06 for a share of the US#5 spot. Susquehanna Township became the new state leaders in the 4x200 meter relay with a 3rd place finish in a US#9 1:42.99. Olivia Sargent of Pennsbury moved up to PA#2 in the mile with a runner up finish in the invitational race. Lizzie Morris of Central Bucks East finished 7th in the invitational 3000 meter run with a PA#2 and lifetime best 10:24.11. Hannah Molloy of Pennsbury ran a PA#3 10:26.37 to finish 8th.
