AA Boys' 800m Preview
The AA boys' 800 meters produced some terrific drama last season, ending with a surprise winner in Robert Reichenbaugh of Freeport Area. This year could produce some similar excitement.
The top seed and PA-AA#1 is Tyler Leeser of Milton Area. He was fifth as a sophomore and second as a junior. This could be his year. He's run 1:54 twice this season, proving he's in the best shape of his life and he'll look to convert that into state gold.
His best challenger may be one of his district rivals, Tyler Bailey of Mifflinburg. The senior took second to Leeser in D4 in a nice PR and will look to give him a run for his money again at Ship. Towanda's Griffin Sites, Milton's Kellan Guinn-Bailey, and Mount Carmel Area's Tyler Adams are also part of a stacked District 4 contingent that could clog up the medal stand this weekend.
The fastest PR in the field, however, belongs to Kamil Jihad of Neumann Goretti. The senior ran 1:52.23 to take second in the state as a sophomore. He hasn't hit that since, but does have some 1:53s to his name. He went 1:54 to take third at indoor states and can certainly be worth watching for on Saturday.
Lakeview's Zachary Tingley ran 1:57 to win the Distict 10 title and should figure into the title conversation as well.
Smethport Area's Christian Tanner, Loyalsock's Matt Nickolaus and Seneca's Jake Schneider will also be in the hunt for a spot in the top eight. This race is going to be fast and exciting...bet on that.
