Pennsylvania XC Week 2 Meets On Tap

Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational - Meet Preview

After winning on Pennsylvania soil last week at Cal U, University (WV) High will look to do the same on Friday at Penn State for Spiked Shoe in the girls' race. But it will face a stiff challenge from PA#5 State College Area, which rolled to a strong opening win at the Big Valley Invitational.

State College has Jordan Reed, who opened up with the individual win at Big Valley and, hopefully PA#12 Kileigh Kane, who didn't race last week. Emma Simon and Lizzie Gilpatrick will also be strong for SC. University, meanwhile, will be led by Zoe Shetty and Caroline Kirby, who went 2-3 at Marty Uher. Look for a close battle for the Spiked Shoe title; University won last year with just 26 points.

Haley Riorden of Rush Henrietta (NY) will be in the mix for the individual win. The Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy duo of Sera Mazza and Julia Cusatis and James W. Robinson (VA)'s Seneca Willen will also go for the top spot in one should be an interesting race.

In the boys' race, expect a close race between State College and University (WV) once again. James W. Robinson could also get in the mix for the win in what could be a close team race. State College, led by Bennett Norton and Owen Isham took the win at Big Valley last week. University -- with freshman Larry Josh Edwards leading the way -- was fourth at Marty Uher last week.

In the individual race, the one to beat may be Penns Valley's Colton Sands. The sophomore was second at Big Valley last week, behind only Garrett Baublitz. He'll look to make it two strong performances in a row at PSU. His teammate Brendan Colwell should also be around the front. JWR's Silas Matthew, Daniel Boone's Alex Pingitore, SJCA's Carter Kauffman, and Punxsutawney's Owen Bartlebaugh will also be aiming for high finishes.
