AA Girls' 300m Hurdles Preview
A close race is brewing the AA girls intermediate hurdles.
Athens Area's Rachel Hutchinson dropped a nice season of 44.86 to win the District 4 crown, which makes her the top seed heading into the weekend. She'll be hungry to get to the final this year after missing it last season. The top-ranked AA girl in the field is Jada Smith of Swenson. She was seventh last season and went 44.17 to win the Philly Public League a few weeks ago. She may be the one to beat in this field.
The top returner, though, from last year is Trinity's Mia Kilroy. Now a senior, she was third a year ago in 44.77, a big PR. She comes in ranked seventh in the state in AA, but she has the experience for a big drop at the state meet, coming off the District 3 win. Western Wayne's Trina Barcarola is another returning medalist; she was fourth last year. This year, the District 2 champ is ranked third in AA.
The other medalist back from last season is Deer Lakes' Kiera Cutright. She was sixth last season and won the WPIAL title in 45.29 this past week. There, she edged out Burrell's Kaylen Sharrow, who ran 45.69. Both will be factors in this fairly open field for the state meet.
Clare Marsh of Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy, the District 6 champion, is another sub-46 girl in the field. She went 45.92 last week and will be a contender for a high finish at Shippensburg on Saturday.
