Top Names Set For Pre-States: PIAA Foundation Invite Preview

Boys White Race (1A) Preview - PIAA Foundation Invitational

Class A's heavy hitters are set to go in a stacked White Race field for Saturday's PIAA Foundation Invitational. Individually a great race is brewing up front. Andrew Healey of Holy Cross was second at states last year, and will look for another strong Hershey performance. He opened up his season as the top PA finisher at PTXC 11. But he'll surely be challenged by the Penns Valley duo of Brendan Colwell and Colton Sands. Colwell ran 15:29 to take second at Penn State last week. Sands, the reigning AA 3200 meter state champ on the track, was third. He won at Big Valley earlier this season. Look for an interesting chess match between those three at the front in a good preview of what the state meet could look like.

There will be plenty of others, though, looking to make this a close one up front. Winchester Thurston's Scott Routledge will be up there. So will the Wyalusing Valley duo of Kemuel Laudermilch and Alex Patton, who ran quick at Lock Haven already this season. Jenkintown will be led by Luke Miller and Carter Geer, a pair of state medalists from a year ago that are leading the defending state champs this season. Carter Kauffman of Saint Joseph's Catholic, Troy Hart of Reynolds, Jacob Mavretic of Millersburg, and Nathaniel Lerch of Clarion Area are among the other top names in this field.

The team race will be interesting with four of our top five ranked teams entered.. Top-ranked Winchester Thurston brings its deep lineup into Hershey. The Bears will look to make a statement against its Class A rivals. Jenkintown (No. 4), which ran away with the Class A state title last season is it to prove it can still make a run at the title without the graduated Jack Miller, who won the individual title last season. Wyalusing Valley Area (No. 2) impressed at LHU this season, and should be strong again on Saturday. Cranberry (No. 5) has been very solid so far this season, running well at Big Red and Commodore Perry. Now it will get a good test from the top 1A squads.

Penns Valley, Clarion Area, Fairfield Area, Holy Cross, and Elk Lake will also be looking to creep into the state conversation in the first boys race of the day on Saturday.
