PIAA States Preview: Girls' Sprints & Hurdles

AA Girls 200m Preview

Margaret Conteh of Girard College will look to make it two for two in state titles by the time the AA 200 meters rolls around on Friday afternoon. The 400m favorite is also the one to beat in the 200 meters. The senior went 25.17 to win the District 1 title, but went 24.75 earlier in the spring. Her 53.88 indicates she's in a good spot to run even faster in the 200 this weekend.

There's a talented group of girls in this field after Conteh that will aim for the upset. Liberty Gearinger of Central Columbia ran almost a full second PR to win the District 4 title this past week. She looks to be in a great spot heading into the state meet. Slippery Rock's Anna Kadlubek has had a big last two weeks, running 25.55 at Mercer County and then claiming the District 10 title over the weekend. She'll be a factor, too.

Maddie Raymond of South Park was third two years ago at states, a couple spots ahead of Conteh. She is the top returner, and she is fresh off another WPIAL title in the 200, so she can't be counted out either. Shenango's Haley Morgan and Neshannock's Neleh Nogay are also part of a strong WPIAL contingent in this field.

Others to watch for include Tulpehocken's Ella Ahner, Schuylkill Valley's Madison Ziska, and North Schuylkill's Sarah Wagner.
