PTFCA Indoor States Preview: Girls' Distance

Girls 800m Preview

With the 400 meters and 800 meters so close together in the meet schedule, Friends' Central's Micah Trusty had a decision to make about what event to chase after. The senior Villanova signee chose the 800 meters, and she'll come in fresh to the event on Sunday, looking to win her first individual indoor state gold.

Trusty went 2:10 earlier this season and has raced in a variety of events since then, including the 400 meters at the Carnival, where she popped off an impressive 56.40 on a flat track. She has tremendous speed, and enters the meet in a good spot to take this title.

Of course, no state title is easily won, and she will have a good number of challengers in this field. Penn Charter's Alli DeLisi -- coming off the mile earlier in the meet -- will be among the top competitors. DeLisi went 2:13 in the same Marine Corps Holiday Classic race that Trusty won in 2:10. DeLisi has good speed too, and will look to give Trusty a good run.

One girl you can't can't out is Central Bucks West's Kate Edenson. She went 2:12 to win the outdoor AAA state title last spring, and should be a factor in this race. She was second to DeLisi at the DVGTCA Meet of Champs in the 800m, and is getting better as the season goes on.

Miracle Price, also from Friends' Central, is one to watch. She ran a flat track 2:15 earlier this season. She's a versatile runner with a good mix of speed and strength that will bode well for her in this race. State College's Grace Morningstar ran 2:16 at Penn State, and she's progressively gotten faster as the season has gone on. Emily Simko of Hatboro Horsham, coming off the mile earlier in the meet, has also gone 2:16 and was third at the DVGTCA Meet of Champions.

A trio of 2:17 girls will be right there to mix it up, too. Radnor's Lucy Henkel, Cumberland Valley's Ashley Pines, and Grove City Area's Abby Steffler will each have a shot to make some noise out of the fast heat, while there will be plenty of contenders looking to break through into the top eight overall from the first of the two heats.
