Penn Relays Preview: PA Boys Invitational Events

High School Boys' Long Jump - Friday, 9:30 A.M.

PA Entries: Jake Adams (Altoona Area); Troy Johnson (JP McCaskey); Nasim Moody (MLK)

Adams has had a great start to this outdoor season, and he has sat atop the state rankings for much of it. The senior leapt 23-8.5 at his home invitational in early April. The third place PIAA Class AAA from last spring will look to keep his hot start rolling into Penn on Friday morning as he chases 23 feet again.

Johnson jumped past 23 feet during the indoor season, and has seen a lot of improvement in the event since last season. He, too, is one to watch for.

High School Boys' Triple Jump - Friday, 9:30 A.M.

PA Entries: Ty Friedenberger (Altoona Area)

Friedenberger is the only PA entry set for Friday morning's triple jump. He jumped further than any other PA boy this past indoor season with a best of 45-6.5 He's still waiting for his big pop to come this outdoor season, and Penn could be the time for him to unleash it.

High School Boys' High Jump - Friday, 9:30 A.M.

PA Entries: Carter Arnaiz (Pennridge); Henry Banks Brandstadter (Springside Chestnut Hill); Jewleus Benner (JP McCaskey); Xavier Bryan-Boothe (North Penn); Aiden Carey (Central Bucks South); Joe Larkins (North Penn)

Banks Brandstadter is the indoor state champion. He cleared 6-7 this past winter, and will be looking for a big effort on the Franklin Field infield. Arnaiz has had a good start to the outdoor season, leaping  a best of 6-5, and he's at PA No. 3. Benner jumped 6-7 during the indoor season, and he'll be looking to get back to that mark on Friday.

High School Boys' Pole Vault - Friday, 9:30 A.M.

PA Entries: Ian Dorefice (State College Area); Alex Munro (West Chester Henderson); Daniel Munro (Penncrest); Max Robinson (Malvern Prep); Justin Rogers (Hershey); Breckin Swope (East Pennsboro)

Rogers has vaulted higher than any other Pennsylvania high schooler. He cleared 17-0.25 indoors -- and all-time PA state record -- and the senior Virginia recruit is off to a solid start already this outdoor season, jumping 16-7 on two occasions. He's got his sights set back on the 17-foot bar, and would love to get it done at Penn. He'll be among the favorites, but will get a good challenge from Jack Vecellio of Mass., who won the New Balance Nationals Indoor title over Rogers a few months ago, and holds a personal best of 16-6.75. The vault should be a good one on Friday morning.

Daniel Munro has had a great year vaulting. He cleared 15-4 indoors and has gone 15-1 outdoors so far this season. The rest sit around the mid-14 foot range and could approach 15 feet with a good day on the big stage of Franklin Field.
