Adidas Indoor Nationals - PA Girls Sprints & Hurdles Preview
Championship 60m - Saturday, 10:45 A.M. (Prelims)
Avery Lewis will have a busy Saturday, and it will start in the morning with the 60m prelims. The Friends' Central freshman went 7.49 -- a PA#1 and US#7 time -- earlier this season. She'll look to move up the national rankings and get through the rounds here. 3 girls in the field are ranked ahead of Lewis in those national rankings.
Two other PA girls -- Sanaa Hebron and Annie Lemelin -- are also in the field. Hebron has run a PA#3 time of 7.98 and Lemelin has a season best of 8.07.
Championship 200m - Friday, 5 P.M. (Prelims)
The 200m features some good PA talent. Lewis, who ran the state's fastest time with a PA#4 all-time clocking of 23.91, will not contest the 200, though. But it will feature PA#2 Margaret Conteh of Girard College. Conteh went 24.80 at VA Beach earlier this season and seems to be getting better with every meet. She enters the meet at US#37, but she'll have a great chance to move well up the list with a strong performance.
Sanaa Hebron of Neshaminy is also in the field. She ran a PA#3 time of 24.97 way back in earlier December at VA Beach and will be looking to improve upon that time.
Championship 400m - Friday, 11 A.M. (Prelims)
7 of the 30 entries in the 400 meters hail from Pennsylvania, so we'll be getting a good helping of PA talent on the line in the prelims on Friday morning.
Sanaa Hebron is the top ranked PA girl in the field. She is PA#2 and US#9 with her season best of 55.55 from November. The Neshaminy junior has raced a lot this season, so she'll look to be ready to drop a new season best this time around. Girard's Margaret Conteh, meanwhile, should be a factor. She beat Hebron in the 400 at the Carnival, and she has a season best of 56.24. Conteh looks to be in good shape and could be looking at a big performance this weekend.
South Fayette's Amy Allen is also in good form on the heels on a big PR of 56.60 at YSU this past weekend, and she could be a factor for the final. Friends' Central's Micah Trusty and Miracle Price and Chester's Alina LaForest and Jiya Clayton are also entered. Trusty has gone sub-57 this season.
We'll have a good chance to see a few PA girls in the final, which is set for Sunday at noon.
Championship 60m Hurdles - Saturday, 8:45 A.M. (Prelims)
We'll see three PA girls in the 60 meter hurdles: Mount Saint Joseph's Annie Lemelin, Pine-Richland's Danielle Bryant, and Saint Basil's Tia Taylor.
Lemelin is at PA#1 in the 60m hurdles with a 8.96. She is having a very solid season in the hurdles and will look to continue it into the weekend. Bryant went 9.21 at SPIRE in the 60m hurdles and will look to approach her PR from last year of 9.00.
Taylor has been busy in the 55m hurdles this season and is yet to contest a 60m hurdle race this season. But the third place state meet finisher from last year has run 8.43 in the 55m hurdles, which puts her in a good spot as someone to watch in this field.
