AAA Girls' 4x800m Preview
The 4x8s will be cooking on Saturday.
The top seeds and PA#1s come from Butler, who dropped a very quick time of 9:16.62 to win the WPIAL title in dominant fashion. With a solid collection of half milers, look for Butler to compete for the win at Ship.
The indoor state champions from Strath Haven are also in the field. Second a year ago outdoors, Haven also has a very strong team that went 9:17.70 to win the District 1 title. Not far behind was Central Bucks West, which ran 9:20.73 for second in D1. Owen J. Roberts and Upper Merion will also bring in strong squads that, on the right day, could find themselves atop the podium.
State College Area didn't post a quick time to win the District 6 race. However, it did run 9:18.37 at the Penn Relays. If the Little Lions go with an 'A' squad at states, they are certainly a contender. Warwick won District 3 in 9:26, beating out a strong J.P. McCaskey. Both could make some noise back at Ship on Saturday.
Hampton, Avonworth/Northgate, Carlisle, South Fayette, Central Bucks East, and the two-time defending state champs from North Penn will also be in the hunt for spots in the top eight. Expect some scorching times.
