Off They Go: PA Week 1 XC Recaps

Bear Mountain River Run - Meet Recap

It was fast times all around per usual at Lock Haven on Saturday!

Girls Race

Lauren Trapani opened up her junior season with another strong effort at Lock Haven. The Warrior Run star went sub-18 for the second time in her career at the season-opening meet, dropping a time of 17:51, the 13th fastest time in the country so far this season.

Trapani was dominant on Saturday, winning by almost a full minute and a half over second place. It's another strong start for Trapani, who will be one of PA's top girls to watch this season.

Not only was Trapani great, but the full Warrior Run squad put on a show. WR scored just 23 points, as its 2-3-4-5 runners took spots 5 through 8 and were separated by just 20 seconds. This team has tremendous depth and asserted itself as a true AA state contender this season.

Elk Lake's Krista Jones placed second in 19:19, Williamsport's Lydia Smith was third in 19:26, closely followed by General McLane's Devyn Bayle (fourth in 19:28).

Boys Race

General McLane's Dylan Throop clocked the state's fastest 5K time of the season so far to kick off the season. The junior went 15:30 to claim the victory, narrowly defeating second place J. Henry Lyon of Williamsport, who came home second in 15:35. Those are strong early statements from a pair of runners who should figure into the state conversation quite heavily.

It's a similar start to the season for Throop that his former teammate Nate Price had a year ago. Price opened up with a 15:35 at LHU and eventually took third at states in AA. Throop, who was five seconds faster on Saturday, is in a good spot to start his junior season.

Ian Zimmerman of Northern Bedford was third in 16:02 and Northern Lebanon's Gage Krall was fourth in 16:06. Northern Bedford's Ian Sherlock was fifth in 16:10.

Wyalusing Valley Area, one of the state's top Class A squads, looked sharp and earned the team title with 76 points. Kemuel Laudermilch led the way for WVA with a sixth place finish in 16:13.
