Week Review - More Outstanding Performances

Another week of the indoor season means another week of crazy PA performances. Let's look at some of the top performances from the weekend!

Boys

Sprints

In the 60m dash, Abraham Sloboh (Milton Hershey) led the way this weekend, winning the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival prelims with a quick 7.00. Julian Ward (Roman Catholic) won the PCL Indoor Championship in 7.05.

In the 200m dash, Quamere Cosby (Chester) ran a solid 22.49 personal best to win the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival. Julian Ward (Roman Catholic) won the PCL Indoor Championship in 22.56, while Jacob Thompson (Mars Area) won the TSTCA Meet #4 in 22.59.

In the 400m dash, Conor McFadden (Central Bucks West) had a PA Top-5 performance running 49.64 to win the TFCAofGP Last Chance Meet. Jaden Collins (Cardinal O'Hara) was not far off after winning the PCL Indoor Championship in 49.80.

Hurdles

There were some speedy times in the 60m hurdles this past weekend, with Antonio Votour (Our Lady Sacred Heart) winning the TSTCA Meet #4 in 8.33 out leaning Aiden Dibuono (Somerset Area) at the line. Dibuono ran 8.37. Clocking an 8.38 to win the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival was Ty Tindal (Martin Saints Classical High School). Tony Hicks (Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) also ran a solid time at the TFCAofGP Last Chance Meet, winning in 8.41. 

Distance

 The PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival made for a nail-biter in the 800m run. Timothy Roden (Central Dauphin) won, running a new PA No.2 time of 1:55.47. Thomas Hess (Lewisburg Area) was a close 2nd, running 1:55.63 for a new PA No.3 time. Brian DiCola (Hatboro Horsham) won over Jameson Todd (Bishop Shanahan) at the TFCAofGP Last Chance Meet. DiCola ran 1:56.54 while Shanahan ran 1:57.91.

LaSalle College High School Teammates Drew Brill and Ryan McGinley went 1-2 in the 1 Mile run at the PCL Indoor Championship. Brill won in 4:20.23, with McGinley taking 2nd in 4:24.59.

In the 3000m run, Jack Bertram (North Allegheny) put up the fastest effort this weekend for a new PA No.4 time. Bertram won the TSTCA Meet #4 in 8:37.47. At the same meet, Caleb Prettyman (Franklin Area) ran 8:39.23 taking 2nd. Matt Castronuovo (Upper Dublin) also ran well, winning the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival in 8:48.74.

Relays

In the 4x200m relay, Central Bucks West won the TFCAofGP Last Chance Meet in 1:31.96. Roman Catholic won the PCL Indoor Championship, running 1:32.07. Cardinal O'Hara was second, running 1:33.23.

It was a blistering weekend for the 4x400m relay. Roman Catholic took 2nd after running a new PA No.1 time of 3:22.76 at the 115th Millrose Games, while the Abington squad ran a PA No.2 time of 3:23.65 at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival. Watching these teams and others dual it out during championship season will be very exciting.

Episcopal Academy ran a phenomenal PA No.1 in the 4x800m relay at the Millrose Games. The Episcopal team won by nearly five seconds, running 7:45.78. Penncrest finished 5th in the same race running 7:56.02 for a new PA No.2 time.

In the distance medley relay, Lampeter Strasburg won the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival running a new PA No.4 time of 10:38.60. 

Jumps

In the high jump, Xavier McGreal (Kennett) cleared 6'-4", winning the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival. Ty'Shawn Ewings (Harrisburg High School) finished 2nd, clearing 6'-2". Brock Harris (Saint Joseph's Prep) also cleared 6'-2" this weekend to win the PCL Indoor Championship.

In the long jump, Raekwon Cummings (Harry S Truman) covered 22'-0.25" for a new PA No.6 mark at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival. Jack Kearney (Roman Catholic) also had a solid weekend jumping 21'-11" to win the PCL Indoor Championship.

As for the triple jump, Jared Hess (Pennridge) covered 44'-7". This won Hess the TFCAofGP Last Chance Meet 

Vault

Brandon Schneider (Erie High School) got things done this weekend, vaulting a new PA No.2 height. Schneider cleared 15'-1" to win the TSTCA Meet #4. Breckin Swope (East Pennsboro Area) won the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival after clearing 15'-0". This is a new PA No.3 mark for the season.

Throws

Brady Mider (Berks Catholic) continues his dominance with a new PA No.1 mark of 61'-4". Mider's effort won him the 11th Annual Shot Put Night in the Valley 2023. 

Girls 

Sprints

In the 60m dash, Avery Lewis (Friends' Central) finished 3rd at the Millrose Games after running a new PA No.1 time of 7.33. This weekend's next fastest time came from Macaela Walker (Oxford Area) at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival, and Walker ran a PA No.3 time of 7.67.

Kaddel Howard (Cedar Crest) won the 200m dash at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival after running 25.49.

The 400m dash at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival was a solid field. Kaddel Howard (Cedar Crest) won in 57.64, while Ka'Nai Bey-English (Mastery Charter Schools - Pickett Campus) finished 2nd in 58.31.

Hurdles

Macaela Walker (Oxford Area) won the 60m hurdles at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival, running a new PA No.1 time of 8.75. In the same race, Maggie Scalzo (Easton Area) was 2nd and ran a new PA No.6 time of 9.22.

Distance

In the 800m run, Gwen Hamilton (Archbishop Wood) won the PCL Indoor Championship running 2:14.29. Other solid performances this weekend were Lily Schindler (Avon Grove) and Jenna Lang (Bethel Park). Schindler won the PTFCA Indoor Track carnival in 2:19.81, while Lang won the TSTCA Meet #4 in 2:19.24.

It was a wild weekend for the mile. Ella Woehlcke (Mount Saint Joseph Academy) and Logan St. John Kletter (Mount Lebanon) were moving at the Millrose Games. Woehlcke finished 6th, running a new PA No.1 time of 4:53.82, while Kletter finished 8th, running a PA No.2 time of 4:56.00. Notably, in the same race, PA 8th grader Sophia Rodriguez (Dallastown Area Middle School) finished 9th running 4:56.53. Yes, you read that right. Rodriguez is only a middle schooler. Alli DeLisi (Penn Charter) won the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival in 5:04.44. Behind her was Madelyn Keating (Wyoming Area) in 5:07.08, and Therese Trainer (Academy of Notre Dame), in 5:07.72.

 In the 3000m run, Natalie McLean (Pine-Richland) won the TSTCA Meet #4, running a zooming new PA No.1 time of 10:01.65. Just behind her in the same race was Wren Kucler (North Allegheny), who ran a new PA No.2 time of 10:02.47.

Relays

In the 4x400m relay, Cheltenham held off Central Bucks West to win the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival. The Cheltenham squad ran 4:05.52, while the Central Bucks West Squad ran 4:06.15.

It was a solid weekend of 4x800m relay competition as the Haverford Township team finished 3rd at the Millrose Games, running an insane new PA No.1 time of 9:15.91. State College Area High School finished 7th, running an impressive new PA No.2 time of 9:20.32. These two national-caliber teams will make the end of the indoor season exhilarating to watch.

In a competitive distance medley relay at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival, West Chester Rustin came out on top, running a new PA No.4 time of 12:29.74. It came down to the line for 2nd place, with Upper Dublin beating Pennridge. The Upper Dublin team ran a new PA No.6 time of 12:31.21, while the Pennridge team ran a new PA No.7 time of 12:31.58.

Jumps

Anna Troutman (Fox Chapel Area) tied the PA No.2 height of 5'-4". This won Troutman the TSTCA Meet #4. Grace Patterson (Council Rock South) won the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival, clearing 5'-2".

In the long jump, Ava Alexander (West Chester Rustin) got the momentum going at the PTFCA Indoor Carnival after jumping a new PA No. 4 distance of 18'-0". Finishing behind her was Anika Kransnai (Manheim Township) and Zoe Charles (Council Rock South), both covering 17'-9.25" to tie for the PA No.5 mark.

Rose Kuchera (Canon-McMillan) jumped a new PA No.9 distance of 36'-0.75" at the SPRIRE HS Indoor Games.

Vault

Varonica Vacca (Mount Saint Joseph Academy) won the junior level pole vault contest at the Millrose Games, clearing 13'-5.25". Finishing in 2nd place was Katie Urbine (Solanco), who cleared 13'-01.5". At the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival, Kristen Hoffman (Kennett) won by clearing 13'-0".

Throws

The PTFCA shot put competition came down to a battle between Ericka Jackson (Harrisburg High School) and Avery Dowkus (Mount Carmel Area). Jackson prevailed, throwing her season-best and PA No.4 distance of 42'-4.25". Dowkus also threw her season-best and a PA No.5 distance of 40'-4.25".
