Making return trips to Nike Cross Nationals are West Chester Henderson boys and Pennsbury girls... and joining them this year are the Unionville girls. Individually, Kevin James was hear a year ago with his Cardinal O'Hara team, but is solo for 2013. Joining him from PA is South Williamsport junior Griffin Molino.

Many top teams will head up to the Bronx on Saturday to compete at the huge Manhattan Invitational! Other squads will have their final tune up races before league championships start next week! Elk County Catholic's Kennedy Weisner faced Tatnall's Reagan Anderson in 2012. This year she is facing Unionville's Courtney Smith.
According to the pop hit from the 1960s, “One” is the loneliest number, but all the “One(s)” – as in No. 1s – at the Grove City Invitational were wearing big smiles and far from sad Saturday.
PA has passed the halfway point of the 2013 season and one of the area's biggest meets has arrived! Over 150 high school squads will compete at Lehigh University for the annual Paul Short Run, one of PA's must see events! Delaware's big event, the Salesianum Invitational is also this weekend, with a PA contingent ready to continue their success at Brandywine State Park!
PA#1 Unionville beat 7-time NXN champions Fayetteville-Manlius 45-79 in the featured, seeded race, putting five ahead of FM's four, and eight ahead of FM's five. Elk County Catholic's Kennedy Weisner posted a solo effort of 16:54.6. Maplewood's Jeremy Parsons won the Boys Varsity A Race in 15:19.5.
Two of District 1's state qualifying contenders looked for a change of pace in their season and a positive boost to get them back into form.
Cumberland Valley sophomore Mady Clahane took her running career to a new level at the Carlisle Invitational - beating a returning Foot Lock Finalist, and setting the fastest time on new course or old in the 21st edition of the Carlisle Invitational. In the boys Challenge race, Carlisle junior Zach Brehm defended his home turf in a very fast 15:28.
We've reached the halfway point of the 2013 cross country season and Carlisle will mark the occassion with their big annual invitational. A handful of PA teams will run through Six Flags in New Jersey while Unionville will challenge themselves against the seven time defending national champions Fayetteville-Manlius of New York at the McQuaid Invitational. This year, Unionville returned to the 2 mile invitational and reminded everyone just how good this group really is. Conestoga, Downingtown West and North Penn all finished in the top five overall to give their seasons a major boost!

Cardinal O'Hara boys successfully defended their Briarwood Championship title, but had to fight hard to keep it.
The senior Chambersburg trio of Courtney Group (19:51), Natalie Holder (20:00) and Alex Orr (20:26) finished 2-3-5 to help their squad cruise to the AAA team crown over Handley VA 39-79.
Ok, so it isn’t the proverb you learned as a child, but it was quite appropriate for the 2013 edition of the Sharpsville Blue Devil Invitational as heavy morning rain turned a dry circuit into a sloppy one once hundreds of harriers took the starting gun.

Sophomore Madeleine Davison’s runaway victory powered North Allegheny to the top spot in the Division I girls’ race Saturday at the Spartan Invitational.
Carlisle's Zach Brehm nearly inspired his squad to the top of the team standings, but his Carlisle sqaud came up 7 points short of State College and their 46 second 1-5 spread 57-64. The winners were led by a 4th place finish from Will Cather and a 6th place finish from Chris Golembeski.
Week 3 of the PA Cross Country season will be the opening weekend for even more teams across the state. The Harry Grove Invite at Penn State, The Slippery Rock Invite, the Boardman Spartan Invitational in Ohio, and the Bulldog Invitational at Rose Tree Park highlight the PA weekend. NASCAR starts out each season with its biggest event. Saturday at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, cross country in western Pennsylvania put its crown jewel on display with the Red, White & Blue Classic.
Week 2 of the PA Cross Country season will be the opening weekend for many teams across the state. PennTrackXC will host the 5th edition of their annual cross country invitational at Kutztown University and Baldwin will host the 10th annual Red, White and Blue Invitational. In this relay meet, each school has four two person relay teams. Unionville girls and West Chester Henderson girls show how strong they will be this season.
For 2013, the Viking Invitational was run at new venue, the Northampton Civic and Recreation Center. The brand new layout was very kind to Council Rock North's Ross Wilson and Pennridge's Marissa Sheva.
