PIAA District 1 Championships
- Meet Date: Friday 5/17 - Saturday, 5/18
- District 1 Leaderboard Links: AA Girls | AAA Girls | AA Boys | AAA Boys
Who To Watch For: Thelma Davies (Girard College)
Why? Davies' path to her fourth straight state titles in both the 100 and 200 meters starts at districts, where she'll have to qualify through. That likely won't be an issue. The only real question is what the clock will read. She's run 12.26 for the 100 and 23.72 in the 200 so far this season, but the LSU recruit can certainly go faster.
What to expect: The greatest sprinter in state history will look to add to her legacy at District 1. Last year in the prelims, she broke the all-time PA state record (23.49), a time she'd later eclipse again at USATF Juniors. Districts is typically the time of the season that Davies starts to round into form, and this year should be no different. Though she is the overwhelming favorite in the 100 and 200, look for her to go out and drop some fast times. Her PRs and all-time state bests of of 11.42 and 23.10 are on high alert.
Others to watch: Nickolina Annelli (AAA - Pole Vault); Bria Barnes (AAA - Sprints); Riley Beebe (AAA - Javelin); Alexandra Brizzi (AA - Sprints); Kasi Brown (AAA - Jumps); Abigail Brown (AA - Distance); Allyson Clarke (AAA - Distance); Maria Deaviz (AAA - Throws); Grace Forbes (AAA - Distance); Siniru Iheoma (AAA - Throws); Teliyah James (AAA - Sprints); Natalie Kwortnik (AAA - Jumps/Sprints); Alina LaForest (AA - Mid-Distance); Sasha Lee (AA - Jumps); Porsha Miles (AAA - Sprints); Elicia Moore (AAA - Sprints); Jenna Mulhern (AAA - Distance); Adria Retter (AAA - Throws); Maya Scott (AAA - Sprints); Keara Seasholtz (AAA - Mid-Distance); Emmi Simon (AAA - Mid-Distance); Brianna Smith (AAA - Jumps/Hurdles); Tia Taylor (AA - Hurdles/Jumps); Christina Warren (AAA - Hurdles/Jumps); Anais Williams (AAA - Hurdles); Piper Wilson (AAA - Distance)
Who To Watch For: Blake Ewaskey (Central Bucks West)
Why? He's rapidly risen up the 800 meter ranks in PA to the No. 1 spot this season. The lacrosse player only took up track this year, and is now among the state favorites in the half mile. He'll also play a vital role on CB West's 4x8, which is the two-time defending state champions in AAA. He went 1:54 and then 1:53 in consecutive weeks, holding down the state's top spot in the event, heading into districts week.
What to expect: It's possible the senior is only scratching the surface of his abilities on the track. Ewaskey is entered in the 800 and he'll likely provide the anchor leg on West's 4x8, as it looks to win yet another district title before attempting to defend the state title. After a 1:53 split at the Penn Relays and then a 1:53.07 to break Tom Mallon's SOL Continental Championship meet record, Ewaskey could pop a very special time on Saturday.
Others to watch: Eric Albright (AAA - Mid-Distance); Luke Benson (AAA - Sprints); Larry Coaxum (AAA - Jumps); Dan Dean (AAA - Pole Vault); Andersen Dimon (AAA - Sprints); Joshua Forker (AA - Hurdles/Jumps); Tony Graham (AAA - Hurdles); Aidan Hayward (AAA - Throws); Savion Hebron (AAA - Sprints); Jonah Hoey (AAA - Distance); Joshua Lewin (AAA - Distance); Ousman Kamara (AAA - High Jump); Jack Miller (AA - Distance); Austin Nice (AA - Sprints/Jumps); Collin Ochs (AAA - Mid-Distance); Timmy Odunjo (AAA - Hurdles); Ricky Ortega (AAA - Javelin); Cole Peterlin (AAA - High Jump); Jaden Price-Whitehead (AAA - Jumps); Donovan Sanders (AA - Sprints); Devon Tate (AAA - Sprints/Jumps/Javelin); Cole Walker (AAA - Distance); Jason Wagner (AAA - Throws); Ramir Wiggins (AAA - Hurdles); Aaron Young (AAA - Javelin); Ethan Zeh (AAA - Mid-Distance)
