Northampton Invitational - Meet Recap

Girls Race

Last year it was Amy Conboy. This year it was Ciara Conboy. Amy's little sister, a sophomore at Stroudsburg, kept the Northampton Invitational title in the family. After older sister Amy won the season-opening invite in 2018, the younger Conboy went wire-to-wire to claim her first career invitational win. She ran a time 18:51 -- about 30 seconds faster than Amy's winning time in 2018 -- to hold off the field for the victory.

Council Rock South's Marisa Kilgarriff led the chase pack of Conboy and came home for second in 19:04 -- her second straight runner-up finish at Northampton. Northampton's Georgia Wiswesser was third in 19:20 and Holy Redeemer's Cameron Marcinkowski took fourth in 19:41, both dropping big 5K PRs.

In the overall results, Southern Lehigh edged out District 11 rival Emmaus for the top team spot. The Spartans, led by the duo of Lauren Meinhold (eighth) and Alaina Patel (ninth), scored 106 points to Emmaus' 110 points. Holy Redeemer looked strong taking third overall and the top AA team in the field.

Boys Race

Boyertown's Christian McComb repeated as Northampton Invitational champion holding off a strong field to earn to victory in 15:33. It's his second straight win at the season-opening meet, but this year he was nearly 30 seconds faster than 2018. A lot of times were flying on Saturday, as four dipped under 16 minutes.

After a very quick opening mile, McComb opened up a gap on the field. He was able to outlast Penncrest's Patrick Theveny for the win. Theveny came home in second, running a time of 15:36. Southern Lehigh's Alex Kane -- one of 2018's top freshman -- ran 15:48 for third, a strong opener to his sophomore season. Penncrest's Jalen Chin was fourth in 15:55.

Theveny and Chin led a dominant Penncrest team effort as the PA No. 6 squad put up just 47 points with 6 inside the top 20 and five inside the top 16. Downingtown East looked sharp, taking second with 83 points, led by sophomore Brendan Flynn.
