McDowell Invitational - Meet Recap
Shenango's Carmen Medvit put 20:00 and 19:00 in her rearview mirror in the McDowell Invitational at Brown's Farm, claiming the girls' race by more than 50 seconds in 18:54.6 as just three broke 20:00. A PIAA medalist a year ago in both XC and track, the junior was fifth in 2018 in this invite. Butler (66), Saint Marys Area (86) and host McDowell (96) topped the team standards.
In the boys' race, a half-dozen teams each had a runner in the top six, but Butler Area had four of their scorers in the top 10 en route to the team title. Butler finished with 52 points, besting the New Castle Red Hurricane's 63. Top individual honors in a senior-laden top five were claimed by Meadville's Patrick Stevens. Fifteenth in last year's PIAA Class AA finale, Stevens won in 16:04.5. The only non-senior near the top was McDowell freshman Christian Mattern, who was second in 16:10.9. Just 16 seconds separated the top five.
