AA Boys 4x800m Relay Preview
Central Cambria made a big statement last week, dropping the fastest AA 4x800 of the season by over eight seconds. The Red Devils put down a 8:01.45 to win the District 6 title in runaway fashion. On Friday, Central Cambria will aim to follow that up with a state title in the event.
Their D6 performance was a major season best and it will be tough to take them down.
But there are a good amount of teams capable of making a run at the favorites. Hughesville has been strong all spring long, clocking their best of 8:09.85 to win the District 4 crown last week. This squad has some good depth and should put itself right in the thick of things. South Williamsport gave Hughesville a good run at D4, taking second in 8:12.63 -- this team will chase another high finish at the state meet.
Fairview captured the District 10 title in 8:10.92 on Saturday, out-dueling Grove City Area for the win. Grove City went 8:13.44 and should be a factor in the state race. Fariview dropped eight seconds off their previous best at districts and has some good momentum going into Ship.
District 3 champions Wyomissing Area won each of the last two state titles in the event, in 2018 and 2019. After a year layoff because of the pandemic, Wyo is once again back with a strong 4x800. They've run 8:17 this season and should be a factor, as always, on the big stage.
Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy (8:14.04), WPIAL champions Riverview (8:17.09), District 1 champions New Hope-Solebury (8:18.85), and Shenango (8:20.00) are among the other medal hopefuls in this field.
