Five sophomores ran sub-18 minutes this year, the most in Pennsylvania history. In 2013 four runners accomplished the feat, but this year five achieved sub-18 5K times.
The five; Olivia Cieslak (Haverford), Lillian DiCola (Hatboro Horsham), Camryn McGeehan (Haverford), Wren Kucler (North Allegheny), and Victoria Rodriguez (Dallastown).
Cieslak ran a 17:41 at the District 1 Championship, finishing runner-up. There, she bested her Paul Short, winning time of 17:42. Cieslak won five straight races between September 10th and October 15th and eventually finished 15th at States.
Kucler had the best run amongst the sophomores at States. She finished third in the 3A race after finishing fourth at the District Championship the previous week. She ran her season-best 17:54 at the Red, White, and Blue Classic early in the year and won the Boardman Invitational to build momentum the following week. She propelled North Allegheny to the state title a few weeks ago.
