At this time last year, only eight boys had cracked the 16-minute barrier. Miraculously, that number has more than doubled in the early parts of this season and 18 boys hold times sub-16. 13 of which are seniors, while the other five are sophomore and juniors. Though athletes from across the state have run on a range of different courses and terrains, objective rankings provide of us a first look at the boys and girls who are running fast early.
Ryan Pajak currently tops the list. He ran an outrageous 15-flat to open the season at the Mingo Scrimmage last Wednesday. Jack Bertram wasn't far behind him at that meet. He ran 15:34.76 which seats him third on the list.
Drew Griffith also ran a quick time to open the season. He won the Marty Uher Vulcans Invitational with a stout 15:25 - the second fastest time in course history. He still holds the course record - which he set last year.
