Crusaders Place 35 On Spring Honor Roll Jun 18, 2012

Reading, Pa. (June 18, 2012) - Alvernia placed 35 spring student-athletes on the MAC Spring Academic Honor Roll.  The honor roll is comprised of student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing.  Student-athletes are selected from baseball, men's golf, men's lacrosse, men's tennis, men's track & field, softball, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's tennis and women's outdoor track.   

Fellenbaum Ties For 10th At NCAA Championships May 26, 2012

Claremont, Calif. (May 26, 2012) - Alvernia University junior Melissa Fellenbaum (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) tied for 10th in the women's pole vault at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon hosted by Claremont Mudd Scripts College.

Troy, NY (May 18, 2012) - The Crusader Men's and Women's Track and Field team travelled to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Ned Harkness Track & Field to complete competition in the ECAC DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.  Karlee Kominsky (York, Pa./Northeastern) was the lone competitor for the Crusader women on Saturday and placed 12th in the High Jump with a jump of 1.54m.

Troy, NY (May 18, 2012) - The Crusader Men's and Women's Track and Field team travelled to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Ned Harkness Track & Field to complete competition in the ECAC DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.  Senior #Brian Nerney# (Middletown, NJ/red Bank) completed another outstanding jumping season with a fourth place finish in the High Jump.  Nerney's best jump was 1.96m, while the three podium finishers were over 2.0m.

East Stroudsburg, Pa. (April 21, 2012) - The Crusader Men's Track and Field team had many great performances at the ESU All American Invitational on Saturday.  The freshmen quartet of Tyrone McCloud (Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold), Brandon Young (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield), Indeo Ragsdale (Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) and Andrew Martin (Thornton, Pa./Garnet Valley) became the first relay to qualify for ECACs in Crusader history after their sixth place finish in the 4x100m.

Fellenbaum Wins Again; Breaks Track Record Apr 22, 2012

East Stroudsburg, Pa. (April 21, 2012) - Junior Melissa Fellenbaum (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) remains unbeaten in the Pole Vault during the outdoor season as she claimed top spot at the ESU All American Invitational.  Her jump of 3.54m also set a Eiler-Martin Stadium record to go with the win. 

Nerney And Young Grab First Place Finishes To Lead The Crusaders At WCU Invitational Apr 16, 2012

West Chester, Pa. (April 14, 2012) - Senior Brian Nerney (Middletown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) broke his own school record to take first place and earn an ECAC qualifying mark on Saturday at West Chester.  Nerney's mark of 2.01m is the best among MAC athletes so far and currently ranks him 15 in the NCAA.  Freshman Brandon Young (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) added a first place finish against a very strong field in the triple jump, continuing Young's string of success in the event.

(April 14, 2012) - Junior Melissa Fellenbaum (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) won her third straight meet this outdoor season at West Chester on Saturday.  Her winning jump set a new school record and personal best for Fellenbaum.  Her jump of 3.75m, currently places her 6th in the NCAA.

(Mar. 24, 2012) - Freshmen Tyrone McCloud (Lindenwold,  NJ/Lindenwold) won the 200m dash and placed fifth in the 100m dash to lead the Crusader men at the Golden Ram Invitational, hosted by West Chester University.  McCloud earned MAC qualifying marks and school records in both sprints.

(Mar. 24, 2012) - In her first outdoor meet of the season, Melissa Fellenbaum (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) picked up where she left off at the end of the indoor season.  The junior won the pole vault in a new school record and reached the ECAC qualifying mark of 3.30m.  Her jump and ECAC mark makes her the first women to reach and ECAC mark during the outdoor season.

(Feb. 19, 2012) - In the final tune up before the championship part of the indoor season, the Crusader Track and Field teams competed at the SU Open at Susquehanna University.  The women were led by throwers sophomore #Amanda Searle# (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) and freshman #Rachel Heisler# (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown).  Searle and Heisler finished seventh and eighth respectively, in a loaded field of the weight throw.  Sophomore #Jazmyn Vega# (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) had a solid day, throwing just under her personal best in the shot put.

Susquehanna, Pa. (Feb.17, 2012) - In the final tune up before the Championship part of the indoor season, the Crusader Track and Field teams competed at the SU Open at Susquehanna University.  The men's team was led by the 4x200m relay team and their third place finish.  The quartet of freshmen, #Tyrone McCloud# (Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold), #Zach Wilson# (Newark, De./Caravel Academy), #Andrew Martin# (Thornton, Pa./Garnet Valley) and #Brandon Young# (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) set a new school record in 1:34.47, narrowly off the ECAC qualifying mark.

(Feb. 10, 2012) - Junior #Melissa Fellenbaum# (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) won the Pole Vault and #Tyrone McCloud# (Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) finished third in the 200m to lead Alvernia at the Ursinus College Open on Friday.  Fellenbaum posted the win with a jump of 3.45m and McCloud's third place time was 23.15.

(Jan. 26, 2012) - Both the Men and Women's Track & Field Team have earned regional rankings as announced by the United States Track & Field And Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday afternoon.  The Men's team is ranked 18th, while the women are ranked 21st in the Mid-East Region.  This is the first time in program history that the Alvernia squad has cracked the regional rankings.

(Jan. 20, 2012) - Freshman #Brandon Young# (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) continued his winning ways, earning a first place finish in the triple jump at Friday night's Collegeville Indoor Classic, hosted by Ursinus College.  Young also broke his own school record in the long jump, placing second in the event and ran legs on two school-record relays.

Young Takes Triple Jump Title At Kutztown Jan 17, 2012

Kutztown, Pa. (Jan. 13, 2012) - The Alvernia University Men's Track and Field team came back from winter break and started back up in 2012 at the Kutztown University Collegiate Invitational.  The men were led by #Brandon Young# (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) winning the triple jump.  Young won the event with a mark of 13.00m and finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.22m.

(Jan. 13, 2012) - The Alvernia University Women's Track and Field team opened up 2012 at the Kutztown University Collegiate Invitational.  #Melissa Fellenbaum# (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) led the way with her first place finish in the pole vault.  Her winning jump of 3.70m currently places her third in the NCAA and would have surpassed the previous NCAA provisional standard.

Annville, Pa. (Dec. 20, 2011) - Twenty-Four Alvernia University student-athletes were named to the Middle Atlantic Conferences Fall Academic Honor Roll. The honor roll, which notes academic excellence by student-athletes is comprised of student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing. Student-athletes are selected from field hockey, football, men's cross country, men's soccer, volleyball, women's cross country and women's soccer.

Bethlehem, Pa. (Dec. 10, 2011) - The Women's Track and Field team's efforts Friday night at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals Meet were headlined by junior #Melissa Fellenbaum# (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) who earned the first ECAC qualifying mark for the women's program. Fellenbaum reset her school record from the week prior with her jump of 3.25m, eclipsing the ECAC standard.

Parker Leads Team At Lehigh Dec 12, 2011

Bethlehem, Pa. (Dec. 10, 2011) - The Men's Track and Field team was back in action with their final meet before the end of the fall semester. Competing at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals Meet, against predominately Division I and II schools. The men's meet was highlighted by freshman #Rondel Parker#'s second place finish in the 60m hurdles. Parker broke his own record he set the week prior, and narrowly missed the ECAC qualifying mark with his time of 8.65.

(Dec. 7, 2011) - Junior #Eric Schweitzer# (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico) was one of five Crusaders named to the MAC All-Sportsmanship team as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon. The team includes a player from each conference school who has demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship through their actions on and off the field during the season. The players are selected by the players and coaches from their respective schools.

(Dec. 3, 2011) - The Women's Track and Field team kicked off the 2011-2012 season Friday night at Lehigh University. #Melissa Fellenbaum# (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) led the way for the Crusaders posting a fourth place finish in the pole vault and missing the ECAC qualifying mark by just 5 centimeters. The Crusaders placed last in the first contest of the outdoor season at Lebanon Valley College with highlighted performance by Sophomore #Kate Wimberg# (Galloway, NJ./ Sacred Heart) who earned her team six points as she won first in the discus throw with a toss of 30.27 and four points with a second place finish in the shot put, thanks to a throw of 9.40 meters. The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors by raising awareness and enlisting the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members.
